WELCOME ABOARD!

In one of the very first newsletters after our return to the States, I mentioned the need for a more adequate base of pledged support. This would enable us to participate fully in a cooperative program for evangelism and teaching in Colombia. Our support has increased while we were in Colombia; enabling us to receive a reasonable Living Link. But any need, such as setting up a loan fund for new churches or securing adequate transportation had to wait or be ignored. We took this need to the Lord in prayer. Our goal was $350 per month from new sources.
Throughout our furlough we looked for new possibilities. We weren't anxious to extend our geographical area for obvious reasons. Not long after we had returned, Indian Run Church in East Canton, Ohio contacted us. We were to be on their Faith Promise for next year. This was a real thrill, as we had many good friends in that church. Not long afterward we were asked to participate in the Faith Promise at the Church of Christ in North Madison, Ohio. The congregation there also had decided to support the preaching of the Gospel in Colombia. We thanked the Lord for these two churches. As our furlough passed rapidly, we began to think that the Lord had provided the additional support that He wished us to have. Yet He had an additional surprise in store for us.
The Palmyra Church of Christ is only a short distance from where we are in Rittman. We had spoken there many years ago with various activities at Bible College. My roommate in the dorm at CBS was from the Palmyra church. Also several members from that congregation had participated in the work crew. Yet we knew that their mission budget was committed. When all Sundays were booked and we thought everything was set up, we got a call from Palmyra, "Could you come and speak?" A cancellation opened up a Sunday and we went down. After a later meeting with the mission committee we had another pledge for monthly support.
Our furlough is all but gone. We know that special feeling of contentment when the Lord answers prayers. The amount of increased support? Well, it totals up to $350, exactly what we had asked the Lord to provide. We are thrilled to have these three new partners in the preaching of the Gospel, just as we have been thrilled by the faithfulness and concern of all of you who share in the work.
There are many other worthwhile projects, such as radio broadcasting, helping summer interns and working with new recruits. Inflation is always a factor as well. Additional funds could be put to very useful tasks, but for the first time we have a work fund with which to plan definite projects.
