December 2006
Mary gave birth to her first child, a son. She wrapped him snuggly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger.
This Thanksgiving we gathered as a family and enjoyed the time together. We gave thanks for God’s many blessings. As I rocked a new grandchild to sleep, I marveled at the gift of life and the joys of family. I feel a special concern as our son Alex is once again in Iraq for his second tour of duty and I ask for your prayers for him and for all of our service men and women as they try to make the world a better place. Thanksgiving is a time of prayer and reflection for all of us.
With Thanksgiving over it’s now December, as we always do, it is a time to pause and ponder the meaning of this season. Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, God’s greatest gift to us. It is a time to praise Him that we have been privileged to have been born where a strong Christian tradition bestows meaning to the season. As missionaries, it brings home the awareness of how people suffer the affects of sin where Christ has not been preached as Lord and Savior.
So in looking back at the year that has passed we think of God’s many gifts; gifts we have received because we first received the blessings of being brothers and sisters in Christ. We have been saved by grace and transformed from darkness to light through Jesus. We enjoy the blessings of family and of our church family because of what God gave us in giving us His Son.
We also give thanks to God for the gift of sharing with you in the preaching of the Gospel so that others may know those same joys and blessings by hearing the Good News of Jesus to transform their hearts, lives, and families for good. For more than thirty three years now, we have felt the excitement and witnessed the joy of new birth through the transforming power of Jesus’ love. We have been blessed by your faithfulness and generosity and because of that we are motivated to work even more diligently in sharing that blessing with others.
So we thank God for giving us the privilege of sharing in this ministry with you and for the blessings you have given us by choosing to share with us in ministry as you participate in prayer and give of what God has given to you so that His Son might be preached in Colombia and then into all the world.
May God bless each and every one of you at this time with the joy of family. May this season fill you with joy and peace as we all share in the special blessings of Christmas time. May God grant you prosperity and contentment in the New Year to come. And may we all be more committed and active in Sharing Christ, as Christ has been shared with us; as a means for demonstrating our thanksgiving and joy to God for all He has done.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your family from the Meade Family.
