AUTUMN
Fall is a special time of the year. Down here, in the heat of the tropics, it is often hard to think of cool nights and changing leaves. Here pumpkins don't turn orange. They remain green in color, even when they are ripe. But though we don't get to see the miracle of changing seasons, we can still share with you in that joy.
We look at the calendar and remember.... "About now the leaves should be turning." "Squirrel season should be beginning." "The Amish should be putting the corn in shocks." The memories are many as the months pass by. And though we often long to see the colors of the changing leaves, for the time being, they are cherished memories of the past and a hope or plan for the future.
Summer may be over, but don't let that rob you of the richness and beauty of this special season. Rejoice with us in what God is capable of doing in His infinite power. Autumn is a time to be out in the woods and fields. It is a time to take a drive through the hill country. It is a time to praise God for the splendor of creation. While we can't share with you the visual delights of the season with you, we can join in that praise. We can lift our hearts and souls together and intone the sacred verse "To God be the glory, great things He hath done!"
WORK CREW REMINDER
We are just a couple of scant months away from our projected 1987 work crew. Many preparations have been made. We feel that it has all of the makings of one of the best work crew trips ever.
We will be working in Bogota, the city of eternal springtime. The cool air is very comfortable for the work we will be doing. We will be helping with the new work there. The first congregation has already grown to 140 and two other congregations have been started. This is an exciting work that will thrill you with what has been done as well as with what can be done in the future. On top of that, we plan to visit Armero, where a volcano destroyed a city of forty thousand people, burying a vast majority of its inhabitants. A cataclysmic event of this nature leaves a lasting impression as to the frailty of man and his handiworks. On top of this, there are many other things to see and do here in Colombia. Each person will have free time to shop, visit the museums, and get to know some of the culture. We plan several opportunities to share in church services with the nationals.
Yet in spite of the publicity and preparations, we have had one of the most meager responses ever. This, to be sure, is due to the large amount of negative publicity that Colombia has received from the American media coverage. If you are interested in coming, but have been held back by the bad news from this region of the world, let me try to put things into perspective.
While it is true that no one can be completely safe while traveling, the risks here are much less than in other areas, such as Europe or the Middle East. And even in those other areas the risk is not all that significant. For example, here in Colombia there have never been indiscriminate bomb attacks in public places. There have never been any attacks directed at tourists. The gravest danger in traveling, whether here or in the USA, comes from the drunk driver.
But since terrorist attacks and assassinations make the nightly news and traffic accidents rarely do, there is a tendency to perceive danger from one cause but not the other. Don't let false perceptions cause you to miss a tremendous blessing. If you are interested in coming on the work crew, write today. There is a great deal that needs to be done here in Colombia and time might be very short. Why not be a part of the exciting work being done for the Lord's Kingdom here?
Fill in the coupon below and send it to Dr. Don Miller. This will bring you more information so that you can make a final decision now. We will be looking forward to sharing in the Lord's work with you during the 1987 Work Crew.
