GOD GIVES THE INCREASE
Most of you remember our "dry spell." When we first got to Colombia we had to spend several months in Bogota. We did not speak Spanish well enough to begin work and there was no established New Testament Church with which we could work. Spiritually speaking, it was a dry and depressing time. As a result we wanted to avoid a similar time as we waited for the birth of our second child and as I worked on our exit and re-entry papers. That is why we decided to wait in Villavicencio instead of Bogota. Here Mark Stringer has a group of churches with which we could collaborate. The prospect of a continued ministry filled me with anticipation as we arrived.
In our time here I have preached a good bit in both of the churches here in Villavicencio. It feels good to stretch my homiletical muscles again. In San Jose I avoided preaching in order to allow the national leadership to develop. This time has also given me the opportunity to talk over future plans with Mark.
Another phase of my ministry (one which has always been of primary importance) is church planting. Immediately upon our arrival in Villavicencio, I heard about a possible contact in El Alto la Guala. Mark was too busy to follow it up. So I decided to accept the responsibility.
After only six weeks of evangelization, we were able to baptize three persons and have about 10 more very promising contacts. We are currently organizing the church there. The planting of this little church has been a real blessing. We praise the Lord of the Harvests for giving the increase. We have also been evangelizing in Acacias. I have been taking a Colombian brother with me on my motorbike. This field is not as "white" unto the harvest as the other but it is promising. we continue to pray and work with the hope of laying the groundwork for a new church before I leave.
It has been a real thrill to continue to preach the gospel while we must stay in "civilization." The paper work takes a fair amount of time, but I still have several days per week in which I can "be about my Father's business."
